We first visited the Rio Guadiana on our way east into the Med, back in 2014. It quickly found a place in our hearts and we vowed to return on our way back west. That time was now upon us.
We had our best passage ever in the Med, sailing between the Spanish mainland and Formentera.
After a few days relaxing, we headed on to the north of Ibiza and the visually stunning anchorage of Punta Grossa.
Leaving Cartagena marina, post COVID lockdown, we travelled a few miles west to Cabo Tinoso where we relished the freedom of the wild anchorages. We explored ashore and relaxed on the calm, blue water, before moving west to Azohia when the winds turned east.
Or the “if only we had a Cruising Chute” passage. As we waited in Porto Istana, we began to make plans for continuing on to the south of France based on the resources we had available. What goes into a passage plan? Our starting point is the weather. We’re not […]
We tend to find single night passages to be more tiring that multi-day ones. During a single night our bodies have no time to adjust to the rhythm of the 3 hour watch system and we generally end up not sleeping very well. So after three overnight passages in a […]
Run Away From the Wind 20th August: With a strong mistral forecast in a few days time we were running away from our furthest point north on Italy’s mainland, back to Elba. It wasn’t really what I wanted to be doing, preferably we’d be doing an overnight to north Corsica […]
Having sat out some strong winds, we decided the Porto Vecchio anchorage was safe enough to leave Emerald to make a few day trips inland. For that we really needed a car. Public transport is available between the larger towns, but it isn’t very frequent nor does it go to […]
Cabo Carbonara Cabo Carbonara / Villasimius provides a choice of anchorages on the east or west side, depending upon the wind direction. We were there for well over a week but we were in no hurry and it was a lovely place to be stuck. After our passage from Sicily […]
Leaving Roccella We made it out of the marina! Despite having watched many boats leaving over the last few weeks, I hadn’t felt any great urge to get gone this year, until just in the last few days, my leaving lust finally kicked in. Just in time for a storm […]
Orhaniye From Bozburun to Orhaniye it was a 20nm hop around the end of the Bozburun peninsular. A light winds start, we’d hoped the wind would pick up enough for us to sail down the Hisaronu Gulf. A few yachts out for a bimble from Marti Marina were managing to […]
